Tace Hartley

My textile project focuses on the subject of the body in contemporary art. Through this work, I seek to articulate conflicting emotions into tangible visual art forms and to expose the dichotomy between vitality of life and the fragility of my own physical self. This project encompasses a personal exploration, it is my creative response to being diagnosed with the BRCA2 cancer gene. To expose the inside of the body and the parts that are inherently weak within me, I shaped materials including wax, wool and silk into figurative elements and sculptural forms within an installation space. The artwork captures my own personal feelings towards my body and highlights the complex nature of the human condition.
